ARDLIME RASATO VENEER PLASTER

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

  1. ARDLIME Rasato is an Italian mineral decorative wall covering composed of natural fillers and modified slaked lime putty. It is suitable for "Marmorino" effect, protective finish for interior and exterior walls. Although "Marmorino" effect is most commonly used, other smooth, matte, rustic textures can be achieved.

1.02 DEFINITIONS

  1. Marmorino: "Little Marble." A smooth hand trowelled plaster.

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Qualifications: All installers are approved with minimum one year experience with at least 3 projects completed with Italian Artisan Plasters.
  2. Field samples and mock-ups: A minimum 2' x 2' control sample to be developed by installer for approval by architect, designer, or owner. Color may vary by degree of gloss, texture, size and shape of area, lighting, nature of hand trowelled application, as well as exposure to heat and light rays.

1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Delivered F.O.B. (Ukiah, CA), aqueous form in original sealed five gallon pails bearing manufacturer's name to buyer within general terms and conditions. Or, available at distribution locations.
  2. Store in ambient temperatures between 41 and 95 degrees f, in original sealed containers.
  3. If stored for long periods of time, material tends to thicken, and therefore requires an energetic stirring before application.
  4. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, in which case wash immediately with water. Wear gloves and protective goggles.
  5. Keep away from extreme heat, sun and frost.

1.05 PROJECT CONDITIONS

  1. Environmental Conditions: Ambient air temperature shall be no less than 55 degrees f. (not to exceed 95 degrees f.) at time of installation and remain the same for at least 24 hours after installation. The installed Lime Rasato shall be protected from exposure to rain for 24 hours.
  2. Cold weather requirements: International Masonry Industry All-Weather Council (IMIAC) recommendations.

1.06 WARRANTY

  1. Warranty guaranteed on materials as extended by installer.

1.07 MAINTAINANCE

  1. Extra material can be supplied by contracted installer for touch-up/repair work in matching colors in one-quart containers.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 MANUFACTURER

2.02 MATERIALS

  1. Type of binder: Modified seasoned lime putty (calcium hydroxide) with synthetic binders in aqueous solution and boiled linseed oil.
  2. Specific weight: 1600 +/- 50g/l.
  3. Viscosity at 68 f.: 30.000 +/- 40.000 cps. Ready for use.
  4. Drying at 68 f.: Completely dry in 24 hours.
  5. Yield: Coverage per container is approximately 150 sq./ft.
  6. Definitive features are obtained after 3-4 weeks, which is the necessary time for the carbonation of lime.
  7. ARDLIME Rasato Plaster is non flammable and does not require labeling according to law 356 dated 5/29/74 and subsequent amendments and revisions.
  8. ARDLIME Rasato final finish is a final veneer 1/32' to 1/16" in thickness, not a filler.

2.03 MIXING

  1. Plaster is pre-mixed in aqueous solution, color white. Ready to apply. Can be diluted with water.
  2. Color pigmentation: Light-fast, weatherproof pigments. Color pre-mixed in material is available.

2.04 SEALERS

  1. Interior and Exterior Penetrating Sealer (all applications): 511 Impregnator, penetrating sealer. Miracle Co., 1-626-443-6433. Apply 1 or 2 coats with 1/4" nap paint sponge applicator in random strokes or spray applicator, wipe excess and drips with clean soft cloth. Apply from bottom of surface - up, so drips run into wet surface.
  2. Interior high traffic barrier matte sealer ( only if specified ): Acrylic Sealer 505 - to be applied with tight mohair nap slim jim roller,available through, ARDLIME PLASTERS, Inc. 1-707-468-4320
  3. Interior high traffic barrier gloss sealer (only if specified ): Saltillo & Terra Cotta Liquid Wax. Miracle, Co. 1-626-443-6433 D. External surface must be completely dry and protected from rain for 24 hours after plaster application.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 PREPARATION

  1. Interior drywall: To be taped, sanded, or floated. Wall shall then be primed with PVA. Prepared wall shall be straight and true and no less than required for first coat of final paint (high level 4). Blue board not required.
  2. Exterior Portland Cement Lath and Plaster: Apply in accordance with ASTM C926 Scratch coat, brown coat ( shingle float ). Base leveling 100% acrylic, fiber reinforced coat ( Alpha Genie or equal ). To minimize cracking a fiber mesh embedded in Base leveling coat is recommended. Mesh must be completely covered. Surface must be smooth. All substrates must be clean and primed with exterior stucco primer prior to application of ARDLIME Rasato to increase working time and avoid efflorescence.
  3. EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish System), EPS ( Expanded Polystyrene ), BTSB or equal with embedded #7 fiberglass mesh.
  4. To reduce the risk of movement and cracking, any weight bearing materials should be in place prior to application of exterior stucco system over wood frame construction.

3.02 APPLICATION

  1. Comply with manufacturers instructions. Apply one consistent even tight basecoat of ARDLIME Rasato over entire surface. Avoid trowel end strokes and chatter marks. Let hard dry (5 hours ). Apply final two, doubled up coats, wet into wet. Close down.
  2. Final finish is 1/32" to 1/16" in thickness.
  3. Apply in temperature ranging between 55-95 degrees f.

  1. ARDLime Grassello is a mineral wall covering composed of natural fillers and modified lime putty. It is suitable for a highly polished protective finish for interior and exterior walls. ARDLIME Grassello is a high polished plaster resembling a hard marble effect.

1.02 DEFINITIONS

  1. "Grassello di calce": Lime paste. A smooth hand trowelled plaster.

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Qualifications: All installers are approved with minimum one year experience with Artisan Plasters.
  2. Field samples and mock-ups: A minimum 2' x 2' control sample to be developed by installer for approval by architect, designer, or owner.   4. Drying at 68 f.: Polishing in 1 hour, completely dry in 12-18 hours.
  5. Yield: Coverage per container is approximately 325 sq./ft.
  6. Definitive features are obtained after 3-4 weeks, which is the necessary time for the carbonation of lime.
  7. The plaster is non flammable and does not require labeling according to law 356 dated 5/29/74 and subsequent amendments and revisions.

2.03 MIXING

  1. Plaster is pre-mixed in aqueous solution, color white. Ready to apply. Can be diluted with water.
  2. Color pigmentation: Light-fast, weatherproof pigments. Color pre-mixed in material is available.

2.04 SEALERS

PART 3 EXECUTION

  2. Exterior Portland Cement Lath and Plaster: Apply in accordance with ASTM C926. Scratch coat, brown coat (shingle float). Base leveling coat 100% acrylic, fiber reinforced, (Alpha Genie or equal) (embedded #& fiberglass mesh). To minimize cracking a fiber mesh embedded in Base leveling coat is recommended. Mesh must be completely covered. Surface must be smooth. All substrate must be clean and primed with exterior latex primer prior to application of ARDLIME Grassello to increase working time and avoid efflorescence.
  3. EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish System), EPS (expanded polystyrene), BTSB or equal (embed #7 fiberglass mesh).

3.02 APPLICATION

  1. Comply with manufacturers instructions. Apply one consistent even tight basecoat. Let hard dry. Apply two final coats wet into wet. Final burnish.
  2. Apply plaster in temperatures ranging between 55-95 degrees f. Avoid application under direct sunlight.
